the adventure continues (and begins…)

monday evening we pulled up with a handful of friends and a few carloads of our stuff to unload it into “the parsonage”. our friends rhett and jenny (and soon to be baby theo), met us at the door and welcomed us with open arms.
so it begins.
and continues…
we’ve known rhett and jenny harkins since august of 2009, when becky walked into the corner bloc coffeeshop for an interview that would change the course of our lives forever. it was automatically a perfect fit! rhett is the manager of the coffeeshop and was already excited and intrigued that we lived in price hill and cared about the neighborhood. that also lead to talking about our mutual desire for intentional community (and, in fact, we had previously met at the mariemont community group back in march, but the timing was not quite right yet. there was still lots of trusting God to learn and grow into first. but i digress…). i called daniel inside to join the conversation because this was just too good to be true! two hours later, i was set with a new job and new friends to get to know, and a bright hope with a vague picture of where life might be headed.
it was so easy to fall into a communal-type pattern, what with seeing each other every day, bringing our extra food to share with each other, including each other in various ministry opportunities,… then, daniel and i were looking for houses and thinking we’d set off on our own and we’d fill our individual house with people and the harkins would fill their house with people, and we’d all be one giant community that way. but, house after house was not quite working out for us, and we kept finding ourselves half-joking about us just moving in with the harkins. then one day, it became a real thing we all actually started praying about, and God seemed to spread His hands and say, “what were you waiting for?”
all that time, we had no idea what He had in mind all along!
now, i’m working full-time as a barista for the coffeeshop, daniel has joined up with our coffee roaster and is still pursuing photography, and we have moved in with our good friends and their soon-to-be born baby! i know, call us crazy, but this is where God has us and it is a good place to be indeed. we are excited to see what He does with, in, through, and in spite of us.
may He pour buckets of grace upon us as we embark on this adventure, and may He pull us ever closer to His heart. “further up and further in!” as jewel the unicorn says in c.s. lewis’ the last battle. that is what we plan to do, in sharing meals together, and praying, and playing music, and leading worship, and loving people, and serving in our urban church, and hosting potlucks at the bloc, and doing life day-in and day-out together.
this is our prayer, and we hope that you will pray it for us, too, and join us in whatever way you can.
thank you.
I am certainly praying for this new adventure for you. Praying for God’s grace and that He will use you for His purpose! And that this will be an amazing and exciting time in your lives. Love, Mom
